I believe we need to trust people in our everyday experience more and in our involuntary consumption less.It is when the (now called) "consumer" decides to blindly accept the validity and safety of a product that we become CONSUMERS.
Consumer - N - one that consumes : as a : one that utilizes economic goods b : an organism requiring complex organic compounds for food which it obtains by preying on other organisms or by eating particles of organic matter
as opposed to a customer
Customer - N - 1 : one that purchases a commodity or service
2 : an individual usually having some specified distinctive trait
The Customer is always RIGHT. A customer is someone who has to be reckoned with and pleased. If a person is not pleased with their purchase, they will stop purchasing the product. Based on this, a company MUST produce a Quality product or go out of business.
Nowdays, as long as your product is advertised well and is in the minds of television washed CONSUMERS. The product will sell no matter the quality. The success of the product relies solely on the law of Supply and Demand.
So, if everyone would please put down their Gene Modified Corn, Stop Driving on their SUV Tires that are about to explode in their SUV that's about to Roll Over. Stop eating their McDonalds, who is only NOW (after some fat kids decided to sue) deciding to add healthier items to their menu. (think of all the other restaurants that serve an almost full menu of High Saturated fat foods.) Combined with the percentage of families and single people who get 98% of their meals from restaurants (Fast or Otherwise)
Not to mention the lack of voter turnout because people trust that somebody (and they don't care who) will eventually get the job done and everything will turn out fine. (HA)
And then maybe you see my point. Crow a garden in your backyard and stop buying MOSANTO crops. Cook a healthy low fat meal for your family and invite the neigbors. Ride your bicycle to work. Or at least CARPOOL. Fly a Kite, and stop watching a 2 hour movie on TBS that lasts 4 hours because they add in commercials. Lets trust those of us who are like US, and less of those who provide our products. For those are our SLAVE MASTERS.
That's right we're Wage Slaves! (think about it)
Example: Wal-Mart moves into your town, creating 800 local jobs. They pay each their workers ABOVE minimum wage. Effectively stealing the labor from, your neigbor, Mr. Whiffle's grocery store. Wal-Mart also charges less because they buy in extreme bulk. Mr. Whiffle cannot afford to because he only owns his one location. So he starts to lose his customers.
Mr. Whiffle eventually can't afford to "play ball" and goes out of business. Now Mr. Whiffle's hard earned money stayed in the local economy. Whereas Wal-Mart siphons the money spent at their store to their home office and into their bank account somewhere else. Effectively draining the local economy. and the workers? They still have money, right? Sure they do. But how much of it do they spend AT Wal-mart? And with Wal-Mart lobbying congress RIGHT NOW to Get their own Bank?!?!? you can directly deposit your Wal-Mart Paycheck into their vaults!
Once Wal-Mart handles your mortgage, sells you your food and clothes, and fixes your Child's vision. You are effectively laboring for them as a Wage Slave. They give you food shelter and take care of you and you go-a and-a Pick-a tha Cotton, Massah. Eventually they'll start paying you in Wal-Mart money assignable by work credits.
Now, you say, Pimpdaddy! You're completely Jaded.
Damn straight I'm jaded. Actually I take that back... I'm awake!!! Which is more thatn I can say for the majority of the folks I live around. Those who are not sheep are jaded as well, but in the wrong direction. They're apathetic and angry. They feel they can't do anything about it, so why fight it.
Not to quote NIN, but, Happiness in Slavery?
It's not just Wal-Mart (although of the 10 richest people in the world right now, 5 of them are Waltons) It's the majority of corporations, who are slowly becoming an increasingly smaller Majority.
We USED to Have Anti-Trust Laws in this fair land of ours. But once you get your corporate cronies on the boards of directors of these beauracracies, the the laws can be easily overlooked. Next time you get a chance look at how many former CEO's and Advertsing directors and such are working for the government. Note how after 9-11, The Pentagon started to work with Hollywood.
A country is hard to control if there are hundreds of thousands of independent business owners. If one corporation can provide your computer bandwidth, your television, your newspaper, your radio, and the flow of commodities you CONSUME, you are at the whim of this corporate entity.
And once one corporate entity becomes your sole provider, at what point does it merge with government? Because it provides your health care, your gasoline, your finances, why shouldn't it govern as well. And if it doesn't, the government would definitely like to have that sort of power.
Matter of fact, next time you're near a dictionary, look up Feudalism.
Just to round out my point about trusting each other more, Let's look at what's going on.
In order for a society to make a "Switch" you'd only have to get a ball rolling. Once you get enough legislation passed, enough power consolidated, by the time people become privvy to what's going on they're powerless to stop it.
It's too late.
Look at WWII Germany and Poland. The Jew themselves were herded around like sheep and slaughtered. Not until too late did they combine together and try to fight. Hell, watch the Pianist they talk about it IN THE MOVIE!
Also in the movie (and in real life) the Nazi's didn't stop at killing Jews. They continued on to kill all types of people. The problem is, most non-Jews also were apathetic to what was going on. "If it doesn't affect me, I shouldn't do anything about it."
Does that phrase ring a bell in your own head?
This is where we should trust in each other more. Whatever happened to communities?
Nowdays the only communities you find are online. When was the last time you went outside and talked to your neighbor next door... two doors down... at the end of your block.
Keep us seperated. That way we have no one to run to when the shit goes down. We'd be paranoid that anyone we talk to would be with the secret police... ahem... I mean, Homeland Security.
So what are you gonna do today?
